Random Things I Can't Tell Regular People

Wednesday, December 14

We are sorry, the cucci is not open to sightseers at this time.

When will I learn my lesson? My husband's smooth shaven boys gave me the creative urge to trim my area. I know that I'm not made for complete shaving, but I figured a little off the top wouldn't hurt. Right. How long does it take for nicks and razor burn to heal? Nevertheless, I like the look and I'm thinking of persevering. But no sightseers while I'm practicing my shaving technique!

I'm with you, Wife... it's not for me, either. I never seem to learn my lesson and it seems to take forEVER before my beautiful "cucci" is back to it's beautiful self!!

For most people once you start shaving it's pretty easy to keep doing it. (If nothing else it's easier than letting it itch and prickle for that first week while it grows in.)

The tough part, though, is *starting* to shave. My advice, based on my semi-regular habit of growing and then shaving beards and moustashes over the years, is to start out slowly so your skin and hair follicles can get used to the idea. If you don't you get bumps, nicks, and infected follicles. The biggest mistake is trying to shave yourself baby smooth the first time out. It's a logical thing to try to do but not the right thing. Instead (assuming you're going to do it at all) you want to: trim the parts your going to shave as close as you can with scissors or a trimmer, use a pretty new razor that you *haven't* shaved your legs with, and don't make more than three passes over any single area. It'll still look pretty messy. Don't worry about it (also don't start the night before your beach vacation.) Give it a day, maybe two. Then do it again, and again a day or two after that. After a while it'll take you just a minute or two in the shower. Couple of other things: Get a good razor -- a men's Track III will work better going around angles than it's made-for-legs counterpart for women -- and use a good shaving gel. It works every time for my face.

Again that's all assuming you want go there. It's perfectly acceptable not to. (I will say, though, that I enjoy being kissed a lot more minus a beard, and my partner enjoys kissing me more too.)

Good luck whatever you choose to do,

Figleaf, I really appreciate your tips. I'm going to keep trying. Certainly not for the smooth baby's bottom look, but a nice little trim. Maybe in a month or two when it's ok, I'll be able to HNT!
